Inclusive Terminology

Discover the most appropriate terminology to use in a variety of contexts.

Course Duration: 30 Minutes

This course provides you with the most appropriate terminology to use in a variety of contexts, including gender, sexual orientation, race and ethnicity, disability and neurodiversity. It also introduces the concept of moving from ‘political correctness’ to ‘polite correctness,’ ensuring that mutual respect is at the heart of the language we use.

The terminology surrounding EDI is forever changing, and many of us shy away from joining the conversation out of fear of saying the wrong thing. This course equips you with the most respectful language to use when discussing these potentially sensitive topics.

Learning outcomes:

  • Understand common terminology for the protected characteristics.
  • Learn why some terminology can be inappropriate, and what terms to use instead.
  • Discover how tone and context can change how different terms are received.
