Racism in the workplace is still a problem today. In a 2019 survey by the Society for Human Resource Management, 55% of Black employees said they had experienced some form of racial discrimination in the workplace.
Racism can take many forms in the modern workplace. It can be overt, such as when someone makes a racist remark or gesture. It can also be more subtle, such as when someone excludes a BAME employee from a meeting or gives them less challenging work.
Race awareness training is an important step in creating a more inclusive workplace. By understanding the challenges that BAME employees face, and by being an ally, we can all help to create a workplace where everyone feels welcome and respected.
