Equality Body disappears under the Brexit Storm
The mysterious disappearances of Lord Lucan and the EHRC highlight two different issues. Lord Lucan’s vanishing over 40 years ago has become the stuff of legend. Conversely, the EHRC’s recent re-emergence, after a period of silence during which political leaders made inflammatory remarks, has drawn criticism for its belated response to rising hate speech and xenophobia post-Brexit. This delay in action by the EHRC and the police arguably gave tacit approval to such behaviors, undermining British values of equality and respect for diversity.
