In 2005, we started the National Centre for Diversity with a simple idea—that everyone deserves fairness, respect, and inclusion in the workplace, regardless of who they are or where they come from.

We didn’t set out to build an empire. We set out to build a culture.

Now, 20 years later, I’m still humbled by how many people have joined that mission.

From the very beginning, this work has never been about headlines, awards or quick wins. It’s always been about people. Real people, in real organisations, trying to do better for themselves and for each other.

We’ve walked with leaders who were brave enough to admit they didn’t know where to start. We’ve worked with teams who turned workplace cultures around from the inside out. We’ve stood beside people who’ve said, “I’ve never felt seen before—until now.”

And every one of those moments has mattered.

A Journey Powered by FREDIE

At the heart of our work is FREDIE: Fairness, Respect, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Engagement. These aren’t slogans or straplines for us. They’re values we believe in—and tools that we use to help organisations make change happen.

Whether through our Investors in Diversity accreditations, our Top 100 Most Inclusive Workplaces list, or our training and development programmes, our goal has always been the same: to create meaningful, lasting cultural change.

We’re proud that over 1,000 organisations have chosen to work with us—not because they had to, but because they wanted to.

Still Rooted in Our Communities

This work has always been personal. I come from a background where being different wasn’t always safe. I know what it feels like to be judged before you speak, and left out before you’re even invited in.

But I also know the power of kindness, empathy, and community.

That’s what has kept us going for 20 years. And it’s what will keep us going for 20 more.

Looking Ahead, Together

We still have a long way to go. Inequality and discrimination haven’t disappeared—they’ve just evolved. But we’ve also seen incredible shifts: senior leaders listening more carefully, employees speaking more confidently, and organisations realising that inclusive cultures aren’t just good—they’re essential.

We’re not perfect. But we’re proud. And we’re grateful.

To every partner, every client, every colleague, and every person who’s ever challenged the status quo with us—thank you.

Here’s to the next 20 years. Let’s keep going, together.
