Cardiff and Vale College has been awarded prestigious Leaders in Diversity status for its commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
The College was awarded the status after the National Centre for Diversity worked closely with staff and students. It places CAVC as one of the best institutions in the country for encouraging an all-encompassing culture of equality, diversity and inclusion.
The Leaders in Diversity scheme helps organisations to achieve an inclusive culture in which everyone can feel valued and in which everyone receives fair and equal treatment regardless of their background.
CAVC Associate Director for Quality, Michell Hiller Forster, said: “We are delighted to receive this award as it highlights the excellent work we do to support equality by breaking down barriers to opportunity and celebrating diversity within our community.”
Solat Chaudhry, CEO of the National Centre for Diversity, said: “We are delighted that Cardiff and Vale College have achieved the Leaders in Diversity Award, and would like to extend our congratulations to their leaders, staff and learners on their success. By engaging wholeheartedly with the Leaders in Diversity programme, they have demonstrated a real and tangible commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion and to continuous improvement in this area.
“Since its induction to the Leaders in Diversity journey, the College has been through many changes, including a merger with two other local Colleges, several rounds of Public Sector cuts within the FE sector and new senior management colleagues in post. At these times, many organisations experience a drop in EDI performance as people vent their anxieties through the surveys. However, the Cardiff and Vale College has managed to improve its performance in several key areas.
“The leaders of the College know that much has been achieved, but that they must continue to work on ensuring that the College is equitable and inclusive; and a place where there is fairness for all.
“I would urge the whole College to savour the moment and enjoy this success. We look forward to working with the College for years to come.”
