At the National Centre for Diversity, we’re proud to stand in solidarity with lesbian individuals and communities as we celebrate Lesbian Visibility Week April 22-28th. This important week shines a light on the experiences, contributions, and resilience of lesbian people — and serves as a reminder of why inclusion must be intentional, visible, and ongoing.
While progress has been made, lesbian voices are still too often sidelined, both within the LGBTQ+ community and across wider society. Lesbian Visibility Day is about changing that — it’s about celebrating diversity, challenging stereotypes, and amplifying voices that deserve to be heard loud and clear.
We know that visibility isn’t just about representation — it’s about feeling seen, safe, and supported in every space. That’s why we work every day to help organisations build cultures rooted in Fairness, Respect, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion, and Engagement (FREDIE).
Through our FREDIE courses, we empower individuals and organisations to take meaningful action — to move from performative gestures to real cultural change. Whether you’re a leader looking to embed inclusion across your organisation or someone keen to be a better ally, our training provides the tools to make a lasting impact.
This Lesbian Visibility Day, we encourage everyone to not only celebrate lesbian identities, but to also reflect on how we can all create spaces where everyone — regardless of who they love — can thrive.
We also recognise that visibility can mean different things to different people — for some, it’s proudly embracing identity in public spaces, while for others, it’s about simply existing authentically in environments that may not always be welcoming. That’s why visibility must come with support, allyship, and action. Creating truly inclusive spaces requires all of us to listen, learn, and lead with empathy, ensuring no one is left feeling invisible or excluded.
Let’s keep pushing forward — together.
